Library & Resources
The library at the Gwinnett Historical Society boasts a collection of some 2000 volumes ranging from published County and State histories to other society newsletters, family genealogy, DAR research, & military history. The emphasis of our collection is Gwinnett and Northeast Georgia history along with those states that our pioneer settlers migrated from including, but not limited to South Carolina, North Carolina, & Virginia. Other resources in our office include maps, microfilm and cemetery files.
BOOKS
The Gwinnett Historical Society has several hundred publications to browse in the physical library located at 185 West Crogan Street, the second floor of the Historic Courthouse, on the square in downtown Lawrenceville. Bookcases are arranged clockwise as you enter the room with shelves numbered one to six from top to bottom. Shelves in the library are arranged alphabetically.
MICROFILM
You can also find newspapers, census & county records in our office library. Some newspapers are also available online due a grant of $10,741.00 from R. J. Taylor Jr. Foundation awarded to GHS to digitize historic Gwinnett County newspapers. The digitization was completed in 2019 by the Digital Library of Georgia, University of Georgia Libraries. You may access these newspapers published 1871 – 1924 online at Georgia Historic Newspapers.
FAMILY HISTORY FILES
The content of the family history files is dependent upon the material contributed to the Gwinnett Historical Society by members and visitors, as well as that collected by the volunteer staff from newspapers, archive collections, and special projects. We encourage you to contribute any family data that you might have so that others may benefit from your research to date. Photocopies are available for a small fee at our office in Lawrenceville.
